Flashback Band Brings Classic Hits to Central Texas

Get ready for a nostalgic musical journey as Flashback, Georgetown’s newest high-energy rock band is set to light up the local music scene. Formed in August, 2023, by bassist Jim Strudel, drummer Gary McElwee, and keyboardist John Milburn, Flashback aims to revive the classic rock sounds of the 60s, 70s, 80s, and beyond.

“We’ve got lots of [musical] diversity in this part of the country, but it tends toward Classic Country, Red Dirt Country, and Country Rock. We wanted to keep alive those great 70s and 80s rock songs from our youth and mix in a few from the 90s and even the 2000s!” says Strudel.

The band quickly grew in talent and expertise. Alan Mayes, who played with Elvis Costello in the 70s, was among the first to rehearse with Flashback, although his schedule eventually conflicted with the band’s rehearsals and gigs. Despite this, Flashback continued to attract top-notch musicians.

Gary, the drummer, boasts an impressive background, having played in “Local Color” with professional musicians from the Oak Ridge Boys, Ike and Tina Turner band, and Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. 

John, the keyboardist, brings a unique flair with his double keyboard setup, delivering classic rock tunes from the 70s and 80s. 

Jim, the bassist, not only plays with Flashback but also manages all administrative functions for the band, ensuring everything runs smoothly for the best performance possible. 
 

Chris, on lead guitar, joined the band in April 2024, and he has quickly proven to be an invaluable addition, thriving on the musical challenges presented to him. 

Amanda, joining also in April, has brought a new dynamic as the band’s female singer, adding powerful vocals and presence to the lineup.

Dave rounds out the group, joining in May 2024, and bringing exceptional lead vocals, harmonies, and guitar skills. With his extensive musical theory and experience, Dave adds depth and versatility to Flashback’s performances.

All Flashback members have extensive musical backgrounds, having played in various bands over the years. Flashback’s repertoire promises to transport audiences back to a simpler time when music was pure and powerful, blending rock and roll with a touch of blues and country.
